“His delight is not in the strength of the horse, nor his pleasure in the legs of a man, but the LORD takes pleasure in those who fear him, in those who hope in his steadfast love.”
Psalm 147:10-11

God has a deep delight in His children,
“For the LORD takes pleasure in his people; He adorns the humble with salvation.”
Psalm 149:4
This morning I had the opportunity to complete in an Olympic distance triathlon race, placing third overall for the women.
When it comes to competing, being properly fueled before, during, and after the race is key to performing at your highest potential.
Similarly, being fueled up with scriptures before, during, and after the race of each day will help us all to perform at our best level.
Before stepping my feet into the lake this morning around 7:30am for the race start, I prioritized eating breakfast before leaving the house at 5:30am.
I knew I needed good fuel to race well.
Similarly, before starting our days of work, travel, training, and everything else, do you make time to seek the Lord and fuel up in His Word?
Jesus set us the example and revealed the priority of spending time with the Lord even before the sun rose (Mark 1:35).
A pastor I know makes it his daily rhythm of starting each day reading one chapter in the book of Proverbs in the Bible.
Perhaps tuning your heart and mind in God’s Word first thing will lead you to an entirely different chain of events and responses throughout the day.
After finishing the swim segment of the triathlon, which uniquely consisted of sections of swimming through tons of seaweed (a memorable experience!), I got out of the lake and ran to the transition area to start the bike section of the triathlon.
This bike segment is critical for me for refueling during the race because 24 miles of biking is significant, especially with the anticipated 6.2 mile (10k) run coming up after.
I drank an electrolyte drink and water, ate electrolyte gummies, and even had some of a granola bar as well.
If I fuel well on the bike, I feel well on the run.
Even throughout the day, we have the opportunity to fuel in God’s Word through meditating on the scriptures we read in the morning or in previous days.
Psalm 1 is a reminder of the value and blessing of meditating on God’s Word.
Fuel well during the day to feel well and be well for others.
After the race, the key now is recovery.
I take a protein recovery drink that helps my muscles and body recover to its fullest potential.
As we finish the day, may we reflect on His Word and recount His presence during the day.
May we be people who are constantly in the Word, delighting in His promises, encouragement, direction, guidance, and commands.
To be a person of the Word is what the world needs.
Perhaps you may be the only “Bible” someone reads during the day, so may we always be doers of the Word and not hearers only, the same way we do our training and not just hear it and not respond in action.
May His Holy Spirit teach you and help you as you uncover amazing truths in the Bible!
Fuel up in His Word and live it out in love!
