The Best Coach
R.eflect:
“Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits…”
Psalm 103:2
U.nderstand:
When God sets His heart on you, get ready for some incredible coaching.
Our Lord is the Ultimate Coach—the One who created you on purpose and for a purpose.
As we grow in knowing God and His character, we gain greater confidence in the training He gives us.
Training isn’t always easy, but the results are incredible when we remain faithful through every season.
God truly is the best Coach we could ever have in this race of life.
Let these four truths encourage you in whatever season of training you’re in.
1. God has chosen you.
“I have chosen you and not cast you off.”
Isaiah 41:9
Do you realize that you have been chosen by God?
You have been hand-picked by the Creator of the universe to be on Team Jesus.
So don’t be discouraged, and don’t disqualify yourself.
God promises that
“He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ”
Philippians 1:6
God is faithful.
He demonstrated His love by sending Jesus to be your Savior.
Trust Him, and remember that no greater love can ever be found than the love Christ has for you.
2. God knows who He created you to be.
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”
Joshua 1:9
God gave me this verse during one of the lowest seasons of my life.
Through His Word, He spoke truth over me and reminded me of who He was shaping me to become—even when I couldn’t see it myself.
Let God’s Word strengthen your heart.
Tune in to the voice of your Coach as you run.
Block out the lies of the enemy and the discouragement of others.
Listen to Him and allow His truth to define your identity.
3. God provides exactly what you need.
“I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert…to give drink to my chosen people.”
Isaiah 43:19–20
Do you need a rest day?
Your Heavenly Coach knows.
Do you need greater patience, endurance, or strength?
Then trust His training plan, even when it stretches you.
God trains us in His weight room—but His weight room is often the WAIT room.
In seasons of waiting, He is strengthening your faith in ways you cannot yet see.
Rejoice in the waiting, because you are going from strength to strength (Psalm 84:7).
4. God trains you for your race.
“And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to His purpose.”
Romans 8:28
When I competed for Team USA at the Triathlon World Championships in Wollongong, Australia, my coach designed a training plan specifically for me and that race.
Every workout had a purpose—to prepare me to perform at my very best.
Our Heavenly Coach does the same.
He lovingly and perfectly trains each of us for the unique race He has marked out for us.
Don’t fall into the trap of comparing your journey with someone else’s.
God may be preparing you for a different course, a different calling, or a different assignment.
Trust His plan.
His training is always for your good and ultimately for His glory.
Take a moment today to thank God for being the best Coach you could ever have.
Not only is He our Coach, but He is also our Heavenly Father, Counsellor, Comforter, Healer, Provider, Strengthener—our All in All.
Jesus gave His all for us. May we joyfully give our all for Him.
