Created for His Glory: His Name Over My Stats
READY
David said to the Philistine, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied”.
1 Samuel 17:45
SET
The story of young David stepping onto the battlefield has always fascinated me.
Here was a shepherd boy, completely untrained in warfare, facing a battle-hardened giant.
By all human standards, David was unprepared, outmatched, and had no business being there.
If David were a runner, this would be like toeing the line of his first major marathon, standing shoulder to shoulder with the world’s elite.
He had no mileage, his form was off, his endurance untested, and his gear inadequate.
Could he even survive the first 5K?
Goliath would have laughed at the thought.
David had taken down lions and bears while tending sheep—that was like winning a few small park races.
But now?
He was stepping onto the world stage, the equivalent of the New York Marathon, standing against the best.
No sponsorships, no race kit, no carbon-plated shoes—just raw faith and trust in God.
Goliath, on the other hand, came prepared.
He had mastered the art of battle.
He had the weapons, the experience, and the confidence.
Just like how runners prepare for race day—we strategize, fuel right, stick to our training plans, and trust our gear.
We rely on what we know, and we step onto the starting line believing our preparation will carry us to victory.
But David flipped the script.
While weapons and battle plans had their place, he knew that this fight wasn’t ultimately about swords and javelins.
And just like that, our races—our performances—aren’t just about training plans, shoes, or pacing strategies.
They are about something far greater.
God’s glory is at stake.
Our Strava stats may look impressive, but there is more God wants to do through us than just numbers on a screen.
The question is—do we see it?
GO
- Have you ever stepped onto race day like Goliath, fully trusting in your preparation, your gear, and your training?
- How do you see God’s glory in your races? What does His glory look like before and after the race?
- Pray that as you step onto the course, you remember that victory isn’t in the chariots or the gear—it is in God, who works through you for His glory.
