Verse Of The Week : 29 Jul 2024

July 29, 2024

READY:

“Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.”

Ephesians 3:20-21

SET:

Have you ever devoted an entire run or workout to spend with the Lord in prayer?
Some of my favorite moments in prayer are when I’m on my bike.
Recently, I spent an hour-long bike ride in my training to pray, listen, and be with the Lord.
This bike ride was unique since this ride was right before a hurricane and the winds were blowing very strongly from the south.
As a result, the first half of my bike ride was very fast and transitioned to being a challenging ride back home into the wind.

Through my time with the Lord on that ride, He showed me that having the Lord in our lives is a lot like riding with the wind at our back—we have our personal base power and speed, but with the wind with us, we have power and speed beyond what we can imagine doing alone.
The Lord is with us and He has given us His Spirit to strengthen, help, and empower us to do beyond what we can imagine!

God has set you up for a life of power and victory through the Holy Spirit.
Through repenting and believing the gospel of Jesus dying on the cross for our sins and rising from the grave, you receive power from the Holy Spirit to walk, run, and live in the victory of the cross (Ephesians 1:13).

Acts 1:8 says,

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

Acts 1:8

We receive power through the Holy Spirit in our lives.
When Paul wrote a letter from prison to a church in Philippi, he famously stated,

“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

Philippians 4:13

We have another Source of strength, and we can receive His strength as we seek Him in prayer.

“Seek the LORD and His strength; seek His presence continually!”

Psalm 105:4

Jesus taught us to pray boldly and specifically to our Heavenly Father,

“And I tell you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. What father among you, if his son asks for a fish, will instead of a fish give him a serpent; or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”

Luke 11:9-13

May we boldly ask for the Holy Spirit to empower us and remember, as a fellow bike rider shared with me and others, “With Jesus, we always have one more gear!”

GO:

  1. Who is the Holy Spirit? How do you know you have the Holy Spirit
  2. What is a situation in your life today that you need God’s strength and power? Have you asked for the Holy Spirit to help you in this?
  3. Where can you create space to listen in your time in prayer?
  4. Have you ever devoted an entire run or workout to spend with the Lord in prayer?
