Fueled up with Prayer

Ready:

“Yet my people have forgotten me days without number.”

Jeremiah 2:32

SET:

Do you know that the most critical spiritual fuel in our lives can be the most neglected as well?
Spending time in God’s presence in prayer and in His Word is what gives us strength, power, victory and a deeper connection with Him, yet how often are we willing to shrug off time with Him for things that are considered more important?

Working at a run station for the Lake Placid Ironman today was a powerful reminder of the importance of staying physically fueled up with the proper nutrition and hydration to make it to the finish line.
Lack of hydration and nutrition for the 2.4 mile (3.9 km) swim, 112 mile (180.2 km) bike, and 26.2 mile (42.2 km) run would lead to devastating consequences, such as a “DNF”–did not finish.
Multiple stations were strategically placed throughout the racecourse for athletes to refuel.

Perhaps in this race of life, you need to intentionally add some refueling stations onto your course.
Spending time with the Lord in prayer is a way to refuel, receive, refresh, repent, renew, and be ready to go.
For you, perhaps that could look like starting your day in prayer for a certain length of time, or going on a prayer walk each day.
Maybe it can include calling and praying with a friend weekly, or praying daily with your spouse.
Setting up these spiritual refueling stations will give you increased endurance and stamina to

“run with endurance the race set before us”

Hebrews 12:1

There was a quote that my grandfather used to say: “Proper preparation prevents poor performance.”
When it comes to life and prayer, how “prayer-pared” are you?
Amid the busy seasons of life and a culture that places worth and value with the quantity of your productivity and to-do list, be still.
Listen. Wait. Delight in God’s presence. Linger.
Pour out your heart to Him and allow Him to fill you and supply your every need for each minute, hour, and day.
He is there at every spiritual refuelling station you stop at.

Hear the voice of Jesus calling to you,

“Arise, my love, my beautiful one, and come away.”

Song of Solomon 2:13

GO:

  1. How does the verse in Jeremiah 2:32 speak to you?
  2. What are some spiritual refueling stations that would help you to run well in the race of life?
  3. What are the hinderances and roadblocks for you with spending time in prayer? What changes can you make to draw closer to God this week and this season?
