Fuel up with Community: Hold on to One Another

READY

“For I the Lord thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee.”

Isaiah 41:13 (KJV)

SET
In this verse, God promises Israel that He will never let go of her, holding her with a firm grip, offering protection, and assuring her not to panic, for He is always there to help.
This reminds me of the image of a loving, merciful, and gracious father holding his child’s small hand—a picture of love, security, faithfulness, and steadfastness.

As I reflect on this, I realize that while God is holding my right hand, He’s also asking me, “Whose hand are you holding with the other?”
Just as I need to cling tightly to God’s hand in my journey, He entrusts me with others to hold onto along the way.
Just as God encouraged Israel, He calls us to be encouragers in the communities He’s placed us in, so we can be encouraged as well.

Are you connected to a community of disciples committed to Jesus?
If you compete in a team sport, are there fellow Christians you can pray with and fellowship together?
If you’re married, do you have a marriage mentor you and your spouse can turn to for advice and counsel?
Are you part of a small group in your church where conversations go deeper and accountability is more significant?
Do you have a peer or younger Christian whom you are discipling or journeying with?

These are just some examples of how God desires us to hold onto others while we hold onto Him.
He loves us so we can love others, and He comforts and encourages us so we can do the same for those around us.

The Psalmist reminds us that the Lord, our Shepherd, refreshes our souls and leads us in paths of righteousness (Psalm 23:3).
This refreshment in us should overflow into the lives of others, creating a continuous cycle.
Amen?
Proverbs 11:25 says,

“A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.”

Proverbs 11:25

Being plugged into a community is vital!
It’s one of the best ways for spiritual and personal growth.
We grow the most when we are surrounded by others, especially when it humbles us to love unconditionally, show mercy, forgive, and serve authentically.
It’s within a committed community that we are intentional about confronting and resolving conflicts and practicing confession in love.

As the African proverb goes, “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.”
In Christ, we are never meant to walk alone.
We need people around us to offer counsel, advice, encouragement, feedback, and support so we can grow spiritually through the relationships God has placed in our lives.

GO

  • Is there someone in your life whom God is calling you to hold onto in this season? Take time to let the Holy Spirit guide you in this.
  • How can you be an encourager in the communities God has placed you in? Write down one or two practical things you can do in the upcoming week.
  • Why do you think God wants us to be intentional about holding onto others as we journey with Him?
  • Reflect on a time when someone held your hand during a difficult season. How did their presence impact your journey, and how can you do the same for others?
