Go Share: You have a Story to Tell!
READY:
“Go home to your friends and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how He has had mercy on you.”
Mark 5:19
SET:
Breaking news!
This just in: there’s good news to share today!
In the midst of bad news, devastating news, and fake news, we have good news and life-giving news to share each day because of Christ.
Take some time to see three stories we can tell, both in word and deed:
1. Share the gospel
The gospel, that is, the good news of Jesus, can change your life and the lives of those around you.
The gospel is simply these four points:
God loves you. Sin separates you. Jesus rescues you. Will you trust Jesus? (see thefour.fca.org for more).
Jesus died for our sins and rose from the grave.
We have a story to share with the gospel, “The gospel is God’s good-news announcement that Jesus has done for sinners what sinner could never do for themselves.
The gospel doxologically declares that because of Christ’s finished work for you, you already have all the justification, approval, security, love, worth, meaning, and rescue you long for and look for in a thousand different people and places smaller than Jesus.
“The gospel broadcasts the liberating truth that God relates to us based on Jesus’ work for us, not our work for Him; Jesus’ performance for us, not our performance for Him.
Because Jesus came to secure for us what we could never secure for ourselves, life doesn’t have to be a tireless effort to justify ourselves.
He came to rescue us from the slavish need to be right, rewarded, regarded, and respected.
He came to relieve us of the burden we inherently feel to ‘get it done.’
The gospel announces that it’s not on me to ensure that the ultimate verdict of my life is pass and not fail.” (Gospel Formed, 2014)
2. Share your story
From the big picture to the details of your life, God has been writing a one-of-a-kind story through your life.
Do not underestimate the power of your story.
Your story can take the narrative of sharing God to those around you through what He has done in your life.
His forgiveness. His redemption. His grace. His love. His power. His victory. His goodness and mercy.
Some may not receive the message of Christ, but your story of what Christ has done for you can be the very story they need to hear to understand the gospel and how He is, “our ever present help in times of need.” (Psalm 46:1)
3. Share God’s heart
Psalm 103 is a beautiful passage of scripture that paints the picture of God’s heart for you and for others.
What we receive from Him we can give to others from the overflow.
God is slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. (v. 8)
He is merciful and gracious. (v. 8)
He does not deal with us according to our sins, nor repays us according to our iniquities. (v. 10)
He shows compassion. (v. 13)
Share God’s heart to those around you not only in your words, but also in your actions.
We love because He first loved us. (1 John 4:19)
Do not be afraid to share the gospel, your story, and God’s heart.
Let each step you take in this race of life be steps of faith rather than fear.
“For we walk by faith…” (2 Corinthians 5:7)
GO:
- How can you put the gospel message into words that you can share with others?
- What is your story? Who are you going to share your story with?
- What actions display God’s heart to the world? Who will you share God’s heart with?
- Additional verses to read: Psalm 103, 1 Corinthians 13:1-8, Matthew 25:31-46
