Matthew 16:24-26 MSG
“Anyone who intends to come with me has to let me lead. You’re not in the driver’s seat; I am. Don’t run from suffering; embrace it. Follow me and I’ll show you how. Self-help is no help at all. Self-sacrifice is the way, my way, to finding yourself, your true self. What kind of deal is it to get everything you want but lose yourself? What could you ever trade your soul for?”
The truth is, Jesus has always been in the driver’s seat. The question is whether you know where He is driving to and have you accustomed yourself to His driving behaviour and pattern? When you allow Jesus to be in that seat, you then become His follower, following Him wholeheartedly and that causes you to see yourself truly and humbly in the eyes of God. Don’t be mistaken too that when Jesus is driving, it means no suffering! Wrong thinking. You don’t have to intentionally run into suffering. But when suffering comes, run with Jesus, with Him in His rightful place – The driver’s seat!
Following Jesus does not mean you will get everything you want but He guarantees that you will not lose yourself. He is working in and through us, a training journey for God to teach, humble, correct, fine tune, strengthen, impact and disciple you.
