New Power: You’re a New Creation

READY:
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.

2 Corinthians 5:17

Set

Imagine this: You’re running.
You’re running on this aesthetically pleasing wide path many people love to run down when suddenly, boom!
You fall to the ground.
Taking a final breath, you completely collapse and close your eyes.
Your heart takes its final beat, and it is over.
You are dead.

But then imagine this: Suddenly, someone comes on the path and sees you there and calls out your name.
You don’t hear anything but then suddenly there’s this jolt of power that hits your body.
You sit up on the path and see a Man.
A Man who filled you with power to come back to life.
But something has changed.
You are brand new.
You rise and feel like you have a new heart, new desires, new strength, a new mind.
It’s still you, but something is so new.
He leads you to a new path to run on, but it’s a narrow path.
However, with this new heart, new power, and new mind, you joyfully choose this path and endeavor to follow and learn from this Man who forever saved and changed your life.

Paul states powerfully in Galatians 2:20,

“I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.”

Galatians 2:20

Understanding the power of Jesus’ love transforms your life from the inside out.
There is no greater love that we can experience compared to the love of Jesus.
Whoever is reading this: Jesus loves you.
You.
Jesus loved you so much that He went to calvary for your sake.

“For our sake he made him [Jesus] to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.”

2 Corinthians 5:21

The depths and riches of Jesus’ love for you is astounding.
This truth is greater than the greatest moment you could ever have in running or training.
The moments of glory and joy in our sports are a temporary experience of the eternal glory and joy of a relationship with Jesus.

If you are in Christ, your faith and confidence rest in Jesus Christ’s finished work on the cross and His resurrection from the grave.
You have repented and believed in the gospel and as a result, you are a new creation.
God has made you new!
There was an old you that would follow certain ways and patterns that were sinful and destructive, while now as a new creation you have new desires and new ways.
You have new power and new freedom.
You not only received a spiritual heart transplant but the strength to run on this course called the narrow path.
Allow God’s power to strengthen you today and tap into living as a new creation through the power of the Holy Spirit continually!

Go:

  1. How can you know that you are a new creation?
  2. What does it look like to live free from the past? How do you overcome the “old you” trying to rule certain decisions and days?
  3. How do you practically receive power from God to journey on the narrow path?
