RECEIVE HIS POWER

READY

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

Acts 1:8 (ESV)

SET
At the end of last year, I was praying for a focus word for 2024.
As I was kneeling beside my bed one evening before going to sleep, I heard the word God gave me for 2024.
However, when I woke up in the morning, I had forgotten the word.
I prayed, asking God to help me remember the term.
He graciously spoke to my heart the simple yet profound word He
showed me the night before – RECEIVE.

This month’s topic is to “Be Open.”
The word I received ties in with this message.
In order to receive something, there needs to be a level of openness on our end.
There’s a line in a song that says, “My heart is an open space for you to come and have your way. I am open. I am open.”

Would you describe your heart as an open space for God?
Or do you have a sign at the door of your heart that says closed?
Our lives may be marked with doing things using our own strength rather than being open to receive His strength. Likewise, we can close our hearts and minds to His counsel, His work, His plans, His promises, and His love.

The list is continuous.
Jesus gave us the greatest invitation to return to the Father when His hands were stretched wide open on the cross.
After Jesus died for our sins and rose from the grave, He did not leave us alone on our life journeys.
The Holy Spirit came to His followers.
God promised us His power through the Holy Spirit so we can be His witnesses!
I challenge everyone reading this to be open to receive all God has to give you today.

GO

  1. What does it mean to be open to God?
  2. At this moment, would you describe your heart as open or closed to God?
Are there any particular parts of your life that are closed off to God?
    If there are, why?
  3. What would change in your life if your heart was open and available to God 24 hours a day, seven days a week?
  4. How do you receive God’s power?
