Verse Of The Week : 3 Apr 2023

April 3, 2023

“Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men”

Colossians 3:23

“Do small things with great love” is a quote that is hung up in my family’s kitchen.
When we review our days, our workouts, and our conversations with others, would we say that we are doing all things with great love?
Are we working heartily to love others and love our Lord or are we working half-heartedly, putting a less-than-full effort to listen, to train, and to love?

Paul says that whatever we do, we are to work heartily as for the Lord.
This verse calls to attention three things:
(1) the opportunity,
(2) the level of our effort, and
(3) who we work for.

(1) The Opportunity

Whatever you do.
This is the broadest category possible.
There are no exclusions, no ifs, ands, or buts.
It’s whatever and whenever there is an opportunity.
Whether we are working, at home, praying, running, spending time with family, cleaning, etc.
Colossians 3:23 is to be imprinted on our hearts and applied for all moments, no matter the circumstances, through the strength of the Holy Spirit.

(2) The Level of our Effort

As a coach there is no greater joy than seeing one of my players play with all her heart and to her fullest potential.
How much more joy does it give God, the Giver of every good and every perfect gift, to see us doing all things to our fullest potentials, not holding anything back?
Let’s search our lives and see if there are any ways that we are not working heartily.
If we do see any spots, let’s confess it to the Lord and begin to work, to love and to live a life with all our heart.

(3) Who We Work For

Who are you working for?
Are you seeking the approval of men, or of God?
Jesus, at the age of twelve, already had it set that He was working for His Heavenly Father when He said,

“Did you not know that I must be about my Father’s business?”

Luke 2:49

May we work whole-heartily this week for the Lord and do all things in love! All things are possible with Him.
May we love the Lord our God with all our heart, even as we run!
To Him be the glory!
