New Power: Be a Daily Witness

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

Acts 1:8

During a recent mission trip in Nepal, as I went for my run, I prayed for God to lead me to someone with whom I could share the gospel.
I know for sure that if there is ONE thing that God the Father is burden about 24/7, is for his prodigal sons and daughters to discover their sonship and reconcile back into His family.

Are you aware that God fulfils the desires of our hearts when we take delight in Him (Psalm 37:4)?
Are you aware that God will grant your wishes if you remain in Him and ask according to His will and His heart (John 15:7)?
I am convinced that morning, God placed His burden upon my heart.

Towards the end of my run, I came across a shop owner smoking along the streets of Pokhara.
I greeted him and initiated a conversation.
To my surprise, he invited me into his shop and prepared a delightful saffron tea for me.
I broke the ice and turned my conversation into a time of sharing the Father’s heart and the good news gospel.
Amid the sharing, I also found out he was a Muslim!

“Did he receive salvation, believe in the finished work of the cross and the shed blood of Jesus and decide to start reading the bible?” No.
“Did I manage to bridge the gap and bring God’s truth to him?” Yes.
“Was he touched by the sharing and conversations we had?” Yes.
“Was I able to pray and bless him?” Yes.
“Did I build a relationship and friendship with him?” Yes.
“Was a seed of hope planted in his heart?” Yes.
“Do I think this encounter could lead to more conversations in future?” Yes.
“Did God’s power manifest during this whole episode?” Yes.
“Was I a witness for Christ?” Definite Yes!

It is not our job to ensure that one believes in Jesus with all his heart, mind, soul and strength.
That belongs to God’s office.
Our role is to embrace the ministry of reconciliation and be a witness for Jesus.
Apostle Paul shares that some will plant the seed, some will water but it will always be God who makes the growth and increase (1 Corinthians 3:6).

God’s power is available and waiting to be channelled into our lives when we are intentional about being His witness.
Whether it is sharing the gospel with a stranger, being a loving husband at home as Christ loved the Church or bringing God’s order to your circumstances, these are opportunities to be His witness, to speak the name of Jesus and to declare His finished work on the cross to others.

Being a witness for Jesus is a daily commitment.
God promised us that the Holy Spirit who is sealed in us will give us power when we activate our roles as witnesses.
If you feel powerless today as a believer, start witnessing and you will experience this new power that is made available to us.

  • When was the last time you shared the gospel to another? Is there someone that God is tugging your heart to share?
  • How can witnessing be part of your daily lives?
  • Ask of the Lord for His power to be manifested in your life through witnessing.
