Reflecting His Glory: Living, and Running, as a Faithful Ambassador

READY:

“Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making His appeal through us.”

2 Corinthians 5:21

SET:

Very soon, Lord willing, I have the opportunity to compete at the triathlon world championship race representing the United States of America.
After months of training filled with long bike rides, challenging tracks workouts, and countless flip turns in the pool, I will go to compete in Australia and represent my country in one of the biggest races of my life.
Throughout all this training, representing my country has kept me focused. It has been one of the encouragements in my training to continue to work whole-heartedly and do my absolute best.
When I wear my Team USA tri-suit to compete, however, there is another nation that I am representing.

Ephesians 3:20 says,

“But out citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ…”

Have you ever considered that you are a citizen of heaven?
If our citizenship is in heaven and we are on earth, what does that mean?
We are living in a foreign land, even if the country we live in is our own home.
We are ambassadors for Christ.

Ambassadors have an important role of representing their country clearly.
As ambassadors for Christ, we are ultimately called to reflect His glory wherever He calls us to live.
Here are a couple ways that we as ambassadors for Christ can reflect His glory to those around us:

Be all in!

In an era of abundant distraction, we are called to be focused on our mission and be all in with the specific roles God has given us.
Jim Elliot, a college track athlete who served as a missionary in Ecuador said,

“Wherever you are, be all there. Live to the hilt every situation you believe to be the will of God.”

Be present.
Enjoy the moment and the people He places before you.
When you seek the Lord, seek Him wholeheartedly.
When you train, train wholeheartedly.

“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as for the Lord and not for men.”

Colossians 3:23

Serve selflessly

True joy comes when we fix our eyes on Christ versus our circumstances.
Turning outward to love and encourage those around you not only builds others up, but also builds yourself up in the process.
Remember this verse in Proverbs 11:24-25,

“One gives freely, yet grows all the richer; another withholds what he should give, and only suffers want.
Whoever brings blessing will be enriched, and one who waters will himself be watered.”

    Proverbs 11:24-25

    Be Unashamed of the Gospel

      Jesus died for you.
Jesus loves you with an everlasting love.
He gave His all for us.
He was despised and rejected by men to the point of being put on a cross to be crucified, only to prove that He is the resurrection and the life when He rose from the grave (see John 11:25).
Jesus remained full of compassion, truth, grace, and victory.
The hope this world needs is Jesus, only Jesus.
Wherever you are, remember that you have good news to share.
Live in humble adoration of your Savior and share this incredible message of hope to those He puts on your path.

“And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”

      Acts 4:12

To reflect His glory, we must receive His glory.
May we receive power from the Holy Spirit to live, and run, as faithful and faith-filled ambassadors for Christ.

      GO:

      1. How can you know Christ better this week to represent Him better?
      2. What does it mean to make an appeal, as stated in 2 Corinthians 5:21?
How focused are you on the mission God has set out for you to do?
      3. Is there anything that God is calling you to do?
Step out in faithful obedience and trust the results in His hands.
      4. Additional verses: Psalm 1:1-6, Isaiah 41:10, 2 Kings 18:5
