Be Still: He Holds All Things
“For by Him all things were created in heaven and on earth, [things] visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities; all things were created and exist through Him [that is, by His activity] and for Him. And He Himself existed and is before all things, and in Him all things hold together. [His is the controlling, cohesive force of the universe.]”Colossians 1:16-17 (AMP)
I am going to share with you an amazing fact about the human body that God created.
Our bodies are made up of roughly 37.2 trillion cells.
There is this ‘glue-like’ protein that holds all the cells stick to one another called laminin (Wikipedia)!
Laminin is vital in ensuring that the cells that make up the different parts of the body adhere to one another.
The following figure shows what laminin looks like.
Notice laminin is CROSS-shaped!
It blew my mind when I saw this and how it brought me to Colossians 1.
God’s Word is anchored right there in our bodies!
Laminins are what holds us together and without them, we would literally fall apart.
Isn’t that who Christ is to us?
By Christ, all things were created, through Him, for Him.
Christ holds all things together.
Be still now and know that He is God.
Just like the laminins that God added to our bodies as adhesive molecules for cells, that is how God purposefully left His fingerprints to reveal how His Son will be the one who will hold all things together now and forevermore.
God wants us to know that CHRIST IS THE GLUE that holds all that we are together – body, soul, and spirit.
Our physical bodies, emotions, will, and spirit are all woven and intertwined together with Christ.
Isn’t that a beautiful picture?
“…Christ in you, the hope of glory.”Colossians 1:27 (ESV)
Thousands of years before the world knew anything about laminin, the Apostle Paul penned those words.
We know that cells are held in contact with another by a cross-shaped glycoprotein…and we know what Christ has done on the cross for us.
I believe that God, our creator, knew exactly what He was doing when He included laminin in each of us, long before Adam breathed his first breath.
Are you feeling apprehensive or in doubt of the year ahead in 2024?
Be still, think of laminin, and continually be awed by the fact that Jesus holds you and all things together.
- Are there worries, anxieties, and/or doubts associated with the days or weeks ahead that you need to surrender to the Lord?
What are the concerns burdening you?
Consider meditating upon Colossians 1:16-17 and bring those burdens to the Lord.
- How has the above helped you change your perspective for the year ahead?
- Second Timothy 1:7 (ESV) reads “for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.”
God created us physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually.
Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians 10:13 that “God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.”
What steps can you take this week to help you better understand that God has empowered you to endure any temptation or burden life throws your way?
