Go Show The Love of Christ

READY:

“But for me it is good to be near God; I have made the Lord God my refuge, that I may tell of all your works.”

Psalm 73:28

SET:

How many of your friends and family would say that you love running?
What would be the proof of this love for running?
Perhaps you talk about running.
You share about runs you went on and runners that you know of.
You have running shoes, running outfits, race bibs, medals, and maybe even a trophy.
More than that, you have saved workouts and proof of going on runs, along with a physical body that responds to the training you do.
Would your life show the evidence that you love the sport of running?
Referencing the call to love others, 1 John 3:18 says,

“Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth.”

1 John 3:18

Love is not only in words and talk. Love has physical proof.

Love is shown in deed and in truth.

Does Jesus love you?
Truly pause and think about this question.
Does He really love you?
Is there proof of this love or is this just another phrase?
One moment in my life that was life-changing in understanding Jesus’ love was when I was on a bike trip across America: you think it would have been seeing the mountains in Colorado or the Grand Canyon sunset, or perhaps the plains of Kansas.
No, while these were glorious and incredible moments of enjoying His creation and the beauty, it was this one verse in the Bible that transformed my understanding of Jesus’ love for me.
One day on the trip, I came across this verse in John 15,

“Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.”

John 15:13

Then it hit me.
Jesus calls me His friend.
“Greater love has no one than this…” Jesus loves me.
Jesus gave His life for me.
Tears streamed down my face.
I am loved.
I am greatly loved.

There’s a common phrase that “hurt people hurt people.”
Have you ever considered then that perhaps “healed people heal people,” and furthermore “loved people love people”?
Jesus’ love for you is revealed in His death on the cross.
Jesus paid our sin debt in full and then broke the bank of death when He rose from the grave.
He died for you.
You. Jesus loves you.
He gave His life for you.
100% paid in full.
100% truth and 100% love.
100% mercy and 100% grace.
100% life and life to the full.
Receive His love.
Receive this gospel message as truth that Jesus died for your sins and rose from the grave.
Repent and believe in the gospel.

“For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die—but God shows His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

Romans 5:6-8

“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.”

John 3:16

Do you love Jesus?
Loving Jesus and loving others is to be an overflow and a response to His love for you.
Go show the incredible, life-giving love of our Savior to all you encounter.

“We love because He first loved us.”

1 John 4:19

GO:

  1. What are some practical ways to show Jesus’ love to those around us?
  2. How do you receive God’s love?
  3. How do mercy and forgiveness align with showing the love of Christ to others?
  4. Additional verses: Jeremiah 31:3, Isaiah 61:1-3, Matthew 25:31-46
