Verse Of The Week : 19 Feb 2024

February 20, 2024

“And rising very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus departed and went out to a desolate place, and there He prayed.”

Mark 1:35

As runners, we get excited hearing about faster paces and personally running at a faster pace.
However in life, there comes a time where it is not necessarily better to be doing life at a faster pace.
Jesus taught His disciples through example the value and necessity of setting apart time to slow the pace of life and to arise, get away, and pray.

Prayer is a gift that God has given us.
We can pray at all times, giving God our praises, our anxieties and concerns, sharing our needs and desires, and interceding on behalf of others.
Another part of prayer is the beauty of being still, quieting your mind and listening to Him.

In a time where it is so easy to be distracted through our phones, social media, and our busy schedules, the first thing that can be taken out of our priorities is setting apart a time to be in prayer.

1 Peter 4:7 says, “The end of all things is at hand; therefore be self-controlled and sober-minded for the sake of your prayers.”

Creating a rhythm and space to “shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret” is key to walking, and running the race of life, in strength.
When we are poured into by His Holy Spirit in His presence, we can pour out to those around us.

Hearing His voice through listening to God’s Word and through the Holy Spirit are powerful.
When we are open to hear His voice, we also need to be open to respond in faith and take action where action is taken, repent where repentance is needed, and to be still where stillness is needed.
I challenge and encourage everyone reading this to create space daily to be open to hear His voice in prayer.
Time with God will never be regretted.

  1. How would you describe your pace of life today? Is it a healthy pace?
  2. How do you hear God’s voice?
  3. Is time in prayer a priority in your life? If not, is there a particular reason why? What steps can you take today to create a space to pray and hear God’s voice?
