Empowered by God’s Grace

READY:

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”

2 Corinthians 12:9

SET:
I remembered a time when I went out for my regular prayer runs: Put on my running gears, weather was great, stepped out onto the pavements, turned on my worship songs and off I went.
As I decided to increase my running cadence, my feet simply did not cooperate with me.
My legs felt heavy, my body felt lethargic and mentally, it seems like a blockage, not the best of days.

Could it be a virus or flu bug?
Could it be lack of rest?
Or possibly not in the right ‘mood’?

I did not feel normal and I was not in my usual running condition.
I felt weak.

Do you encounter such days too when it comes to exercise?
Likely so, at some point if you are one who is active and exercise regularly (Consider this a gentle nudge and a bit of encouragement to begin if you haven’t already).
To the rest of us, such days are common to all in one way or another.

“Not every day can be like Sunday!” (A common phrase used!)
Not every day will be ordinary.
Not every day you will have feelings of greatness and excitement.
Not every day will be mountain top experiences.
Not every day will there be successes, wins and breakthroughs.
Not every day will be up to your expectations.

There will be difficult days and challenging moments.
There will be days when you will feel helpless or hopeless.
There will be simply days that you feel weak and left to lean entirely on God’s grace.
There will even be days where your weaknesses may appear to overshadow all that you were purposed to do or accomplished.

But like what Paul commented on how temptation is common to man, yet not overtaking us because of God’s faithful love (1 Corinthians 10:13), an uncommon day is normal because we are literally threading on God’s amazing grace every moment of our lives.
There will be many times that we will feel at our lowest or weakness, yet, God sustains us, strengthens us, lifts us and pushes us forward.

There is power in God’s sufficient grace for us to accomplished all the assignments that God has purposed for us to do.
This is the power that loves to be in the limelight when we are weak.
It is in our weakness that God’s power is brought to perfection, and attributing all the glory back to Him.

God has designed us so that in our times of lack, we learn to rely on His power.
He designed our journey so that there will moments where we will eventually confess our need for His grace.
His abundant grace is available and sufficient to empower us in times of need.

Grace is what we have, and grace is all we need!

GO:

  • How are you dealing and managing your weaknesses in this season?
  • How can 2 Corinthians 12:9 help you understand God’s power that is at work in and through your life?
  • Why do you think Paul ask us to ‘boost’ our weaknesses more gladly?
