Run with Thanksgiving
READY:
“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
SET:
When most Americans hear the word Thanksgiving, they would never think to pair it with running…other than my family.
We have a tradition each year to run the local turkey trot 5k before we go to my uncle’s home for a delicious Thanksgiving dinner.
When we sit down as a family together for Thanksgiving dinner, we know that we ran in the morning and have extra space to enjoy all the foods placed before us!
How do we run with thanksgiving?
It certainly doesn’t mean carrying a plate full of food!
But it does mean carrying a heart full of gratitude every day of the year.
God’s will for each of our lives is to give thanks in all circumstances.
When we understand the gospel of how God sent His Son, Jesus, to live a perfect life, die for our sins, and rise from the grave to offer new life, forgiveness, and hope, we can be thankful.
“Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.”
John 15:13
Every step in life can be one of thanksgiving.
We know living a life of thankfulness requires God’s grace to do so.
I challenge you to take some time today and thank God for everything that He has done for you, for the blessings that He has given you, and for the people in your life (even the difficult ones!).
Running with a thankful heart changes everything for the good.
Thank God that He promises to those who believe in Him,
“I will never leave you nor forsake you.”
Joshua 1:5
GO:
- What situations can lead you to not be thankful?
How can you shift your mind to walk in thankfulness? - How can you incorporate thankfulness into your day?
Into your training?
Into your races?
