Reflecting His Image: Staying in Step with Him
READY
“If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit.”
Galatians 5:25
SET
Being empowered by the Holy Spirit is crucial to living a life that reflects the image of Jesus.
Scripture describes following the Spirit’s leading as “keeping in step” with Him.
When we run with the right person, we experience increased stamina, strength, and joy.
Likewise, when we stay in step with the Holy Spirit, we are enabled to truly follow Jesus and reflect His heart to those around us.
Jesus is the perfect reflection of the Father—He is the image of God Himself:
“He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of His nature, and He upholds the universe by the word of His power.”
Hebrews 1:3
“He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by Him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible…”
Colossians 1:15–16
Jesus, the Son of God, revealed to the world the very nature and heart of the Father.
As we read about His life through the Gospel accounts, we begin to understand the One we are called to follow—and reflect—in this world.
As Jesus approached the finish line of His earthly mission—to die for our sins and rise again—He gave His disciples an unexpected promise:
“…it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send Him to you.”
John 16:7
Jesus referred to the Holy Spirit as our Helper (John 14:26), but also our Counselor and Comforter. If those are His names, it means we’ll need counsel, comfort, and help—often.
What a gift it is to follow Jesus and receive the Holy Spirit!
The Spirit not only helps us walk with Christ, but also produces fruit in our lives:
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control…”
Galatians 5:22–23
When you run with someone regularly, you grow in friendship and connection.
In the same way, the Lord wants to run with you—daily.
He desires to be involved in every detail of your life.
Nothing is too complicated for Him.
Let Him be your running partner.
Stay in step with Him, and you will reflect His image and His heart to the world around you.
