New Power: Abound in Gratitude

“Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving”

Colossians 2:6-7

The celebration of Resurrection Sunday has just passed and we were reminded about the empty cross and grave, the triumphant victory of Christ and how it has given us new life, new hope and new power to live a victorious life in Christ.
As believers, we need to embrace that renewal in us and start to live empowered lives that displays God’s power in and through our lives.
There is a new way of living our lives to experience fruitfulness and victories and one of it is –  BE THANKFUL.

How often do you give thanks for the gifts, talents and skills that God has given you?
Being about to run fast, throw far, hit well; being able to lead worship, play the keyboards; being able to teach children, diagnose illnesses, fly the plane etc.
Or do we treat thankfulness simply a response to God’s blessing?

Let us take it to the next level.
We need to embrace this new power in us.
Being thankful is a posture that responds to the presence of God in our lives, Amen?
Apostle Paul urges us to give thanks in all circumstances, good times and bad times.
The fact that God is present in our lives and that Jesus became the propitiation of our sins, we ought to be always thankful, growing in its quality and quantity.

What do I mean?
As we grow in our spiritual maturity, our understanding of God’s presence in our lives should deepen, leading to an intimacy that hinges on gratitude to God for who He is and not just what He has done.
Our capacity and consistency of gratitude should increase as well as often as we can through prayer and actions.

Can I suggest something?
First thing when you wake up, give thanks.
Take a break during work time, give thanks.
During your meals, give thanks.
While you are driving, give thanks.
As you go for your exercise, give thanks.
Before you sleep at night, give thanks.
Give it a try.

  1. How has thanksgiving been a part of your daily life?
  2. How can we grow in our posture of gratitude?
  3. Take a minute, be still and start your gratitude moment with God now. Practice!
