Chasing My Glory: I Am Not My Own
READY
“Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.”
1 Corinthians 6:19-20
SET
A great perspective to embrace at the start of a new year, sports season, career, or role is recognizing that who we are, what we have, and where we are going are all under God’s sovereign control.
He has given us our bodies, talents, and calling.
Our responsibility is to steward them well and glorify Him in all we do.
Since the fall of mankind, humanity has been on an endless pursuit of self-gratification—chasing dreams and goals that cannot fill the void in our hearts.
We seek affirmation and validation.
We harbor selfish ambitions of fame and recognition.
It’s all about “me, myself, and I.”
The pursuit of self-glory drives us toward promotions, records, medals, and championships.
But these things can never truly satisfy.
What are you chasing this year?
To honor God means giving credit where it’s due.
Honoring Him with our bodies starts with acknowledging that we were bought at a great price.
Jesus paid the ultimate sacrifice for us.
We are not our own; we belong to God.
Therefore, our lives—our bodies—should reflect His glory.
Let us give God the credit He deserves, Amen?
We are citizens of Heaven, merely sojourners on this earth.
Earth is not our home; it is a temporary stop on the way to our eternal destination.
We brought nothing into this world, and we will leave with nothing.
We own nothing but are stewards of everything God has entrusted to us.
So, steward your body for the glory of God.
He deserves all the glory, and He alone is worthy of it.
Let me leave you with the chorus of a beautiful song, Because of Jesus by Charity Gayle:
Now my heart cries, “This is my Redeemer”
With my whole life I will give You praise
All the glory to the One who’s worthy
Because of Jesus, I have been changed…
Remember: You are not your own. Chase His glory.
GO
- Knowing that you are not your own, how does this truth impact the way you live, work, and make decisions?
- Have you been chasing after your own glory instead of God’s? Spend time asking the Lord to search your heart and reveal your motives. Meditate on 1 Corinthians 6:19-20.
- What specific steps can you take to honor God with your body and gifts this week?
- Reflect on areas of your life where you might be holding back from fully surrendering to God’s purpose. How can you steward those areas better for His glory?
- How can you encourage someone else to pursue God’s glory in their life?
