Fuel up with Scriptures: Every Day is a Mini Marathon
Ready:
2 Timothy 3:16
“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness.”
Set:
Recently, I found myself in a conversation with some youths about long-distance running.
They asked me whether I take running gels during endurance exercises.
I explained that I usually only use these gels during very long runs—typically more than 21km, possibly even 30-40km.
In these longer runs, it’s essential to refuel and recharge to keep going, maintain the pace, and finish strong.
Whether it’s psychological or truly effective, the point is that refueling along the way is crucial.
Our life is like a marathon—actually, it’s the longest and most challenging run we’ll ever undertake.
This ultra-ultra marathon only ends when we meet Jesus face to face.
With that in mind, we need to consider:
if this is the longest run we’ll ever take, what do we need to keep us going?
What will sustain us through the highs and lows, the trials and triumphs?
The answer lies in God’s Word.
As the verse from 2 Timothy says, all Scripture is God-breathed.
This is our spiritual food, our divine fuel.
Without it, we risk spiritual starvation—a dangerous blind spot.
Initially, the lack of spiritual nourishment might not be obvious.
You might even think you’re doing fine.
But slowly, it becomes evident as you start to feel weary, burnt out, and eventually, you may find yourself on the brink of stopping altogether—backsliding.
We need to treat every day as a mini-marathon, not just once a week or once a month.
Every single day, we need to refuel our lives with God’s Word.
He desires to feed us with daily bread, just as He provided manna to the Israelites in the wilderness.
This daily intake of Scripture helps us to keep going strong for Him.
God’s Word is essential in our lives for teaching, correction, conviction, training in righteousness, encouragement, comfort, and so much more. It’s the fuel that powers us through our spiritual journey.
Don’t run your race without the right fuel or without refuelling along the way.
The Word of God is your source of strength, endurance, and sustenance.
Make it your daily habit to immerse yourself in His Word, allowing it to refresh your soul and renew your spirit, so that you can run your race with perseverance and finish strong.
Go:
- Reflect on your current spiritual routine.
Are you regularly “refueling” with God’s Word, or are you running on empty? - What steps can you take to ensure that you are consuming God’s Word daily, just as you would refuel during a long race?
- Pray and ask God to give you a renewed hunger for His Word, to see it as essential for your daily life, and to rely on it for guidance, strength, and sustenance.
